Love Spoons were traditionally (and still are) given as a present to a couple on their wedding day as well as an invitation to begin courtship.
They are now given as christening presents, to celebrate anniversaries (especially the 5th Wedding Anniversary - wood) and birthdays, as Valentines Day gifts, as a symbol of friendship and good luck, and just to say “I love you”. Many are also given to friends and relatives that have emigrated to remind them of home.
Love spoons are also given as “Wedding Favours” - a gift for each guest that attends as a thank you and a reminder of the day.
All orders are accompanied by a gift/information card explaining the various symbols carved into the spoons and the story behind the tradition.
The giving and receiving of love spoons is a custom unique to Wales and dates back to mediaeval times.
These love spoons, hand-crafted in Wales, continue this tradition.

These love spoons, by Pageant Wood Products, are one of the most extensive
ranges of traditional, hand-crafted Welsh Lovespoons available.
We are proud to have been involved in the marketing of this range since 1976.

Traditional methods are used whenever possible when hand-crafting these love spoons. Fourteen operations are involved between the first rough board and the finished love spoon. Unlike many, no two spoons will ever be exactly the same.

Welsh Love Spoons
An introduction to the Welsh Love Spoon . . . . .

In past times, love spoons would not have incorporated any wording. The symbols were used to convey the message to the receiver because most of the carvers would have been illiterate. In keeping with this tradition, we don’t specially adapt any designs in order to create space for lettering. Each love spoon despatched comes with a free information card with space for you to write your message or we can print the details for you with your choice of wording. This is a free service.

Please also note that, as this is a traditional range, you won’t find any specially made “5th” or “Stork” type love spoons. Any love spoon can be given for any occasion and the choice is left to your own personal preference in choosing the design and symbols.
